Workers at the old Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo, black and white photo.

Tokyo Tsukiji Exhibition

Museum of Far Eastern Art, Trieste 25/10/2019

The historical photos of the Trieste Fish Market from the Photo Library of the Museums of History and Art, together with some Japanese fish-themed ceramics from the collections of the Museum of Far Eastern Art, are intertwined with the contemporary photos taken in Tokyo by Nicola Tanzini.

The protagonist of the photographic exhibition is the fish market, or rather, the fish markets of Tokyo and Trieste. Despite their geographical distance, these places, now lost to time, show us human values, cultural and historical, which diverge and yet intersect at the same time.

Selection by Claudia Colecchia, head of the Photo Library of the Museums of History and Art, and Michela Messina, curator of the Museum of Far Eastern Art, for the Trieste section.

The exhibition, which will be accompanied by the presentation of the book Tokyo Tsukiji (Contrasto, 2018) by Nicola Tanzini, will open during the opening days of the Trieste Photo Days event and will remain on display until 6 January 2020.
